The Montana FFA 86th Annual State Convention was held on March 30th through April 2nd at Montana State University in Bozeman. Many members from the Big Timber FFA Chapter traveled to the convention and competed. Advisors Gary Mattheis and Casey Lunceford traveled with their teams and worked all year to ensure that each member was prepared for their contest.
Teams that competed at this year's state convention included Livestock Evaluation, Farm Business Management, Agronomy, Ag Sales, and Mechanics. There were also two Agriscience entrees and one talent contestant. Along with these competitors Gunner Hathaway participated in Courtesy Corps, and Caitlyn Corso also participated in Press Corps.
The Livestock team of Jess Moody, Mesa King, Cole Mckenney, and Dylan Laverell took fifth place overall, and Jess Moody earned the first place state title. The Farm Business Management team included Sam Curry, Luke Rech, Charli Moore and Tucker Stenberg. They took fourth place as a team, with Sam Curry earning the second place state title. The Agronomy team of Kelli Mack, Caitlyn Corso, Brigit Flanagan, and Carter Brownlee received eleventh place as a team, and Caitlyn Corso took fifth place individually. The Ag Sales team consisting of Holly Emter, Cole Lunceford, Carter Brownlee, and Madilyn Emter earned ninth place overall. Rounding out Big Timber FFA´s team contests the Mechanics team of Tucker Stenberg, Billy Miller, Sam Curry, and Trever Klein received twelfth place overall.
The Agriscience members included Kate Indreland, with a natural fertilizer presentation, and the team of Reilly Lannen and Dylan Laverell with a presentation about oat growing with different water sources. Kate took the first place state title, and Reilly and Dylan earned third place. Tanner Packer was the chapter´s talent contestant with a great performance of an original song, accompanied by himself on the guitar.
The Big Timber FFA ended the 86th State Convention with the sixth place spot in the coveted sweepstakes contest. This was a great way to end the year and a fantastic final state convention for advisor Gary Mattheis. Congratulations to all of the members who competed, and a big thank you Mr. Mattheis for helping the chapter pull off another excellent state convention.
