On Wednesday, March 25th, the members of the Big Timber FFA chapter who qualified for State traveled to Billings for the 2014 - 2015 State Convention. Upon their arrival, the nerves began to run through their bodies and many members could focus on nothing else. As they got to their hotel rooms they pulled on their black nylons and skirts, or pants. Then they buttoned their uncomfortable white shirts and then ties were tied around the necks of each member. Finally the arguably horrendous blue jacket was zipped up, and the members walked over to the convention center for their specific events.
Many of the members traveled to Billings and competed in more than one event, which caused even more stress during the week. Mr. Mattheis and Mr. Lunceford wandered around the convention center everyday, either helping with contests, or making sure their children were in the right place at the right time. The convention went on for four days, and the Big Timber advisers could not have been more supportive throughout the trip.
The Big Timber members who traveled to the state convention included Tucker Stenberg, Brent Beley, Brigit Flanagan, Kelli Mack, Caitlyn Corso, Carter Brownlee, Cole Lunceford, Dylan Laverell, Holly Emter, Jodee Fleming, Madeline Emter, Kate Indreland, Carlie Rembold, Payson Lippert, Mesa King, Jess Moody, Cole McKenney, Kalvin Kunda, Mack Coyne, Brycen Lehman, Makalee Klein, and Rachel Glavin.
Big Timber brought home third place overall in the state, and Madeline Emter received first place in Creed Speaking and will have the opportunity to represent Montana FFA at the National Convention this fall. The Agronomy team took eighth place, Farm Business Management took fourth, Mechanics took seventh and the Livestock Judging team took third.
Carlie Rembold also received the honor of being the Montana FFA Second Vice President for the 2015-2016 year.
There are still forestry and floriculture state contests to take place in April and May before the year is over. Congratulations to all the State FFA attendees on a wonderful job at the 2014 - 2015 State Convention.
