Every year the NBA has its official scouting combine to get a good look at some of the best college, overseas, and D-League players that basketball has to offer. This event is called the NBA Draft Combine.
Right now the official combine list has a total of 62 players that will be attending on May 12-17 in Chicago, IL. And with only 60 available draft spots, the stakes are high at this year’s combine for those players that are just on the fringe of possibly being drafted in the second round.
At this event players will try to wow NBA scouts and executives through a series of physical tests, drills, and five on five scrimmages. The physical tests include things such as: vertical leap, maximum vertical leap, max bench press reps at 185, ¾ court sprint, and the shuttle run. Players also have the chance to showcase their ball handling, shooting, and overall game situation skills.
After the NBA Combine, participants eagerly and nervously await phone calls from NBA team affiliates inviting them to partake in workouts with the team and other individual analysis. After this, they keep working, waiting to hear their name called on June 25 at the NBA Draft.
