The Sweet Grass County Herders have once again earned their spot in the MT Class B State Basketball tournament with a second place win at the 2016 Southern B Divisional tournament in Billings. The 2016 State Tournament will be held in Butte, MT at the Butte Civic Center, Thursday March 10th through Saturday March 12th. The tournament will commence with a 12:00 p.m. game between Jefferson and Florence. The Big Timber Herders will end the night in a match-up against the Shelby Coyotes at 8:00 p.m.

If victorious, the Herders will play at 8:00 p.m. Friday night. If the odds are not in their favor, they will play at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The boys are going into this tournament with a strong standing and have been working all season to prepare. “The opportunity is in front of us, and we definitely don’t want to watch it go by. This is our last chance to leave a legacy that this group has always wanted to leave,” said Captain, Luke Rech, of this team’s chance to grasp the 2016 Class B State title.

With an overall season record of 18-5 and a second place win at both the 5B District tournament and the Southern B Divisional tournament, the team is well equipped to play for the coveted State Champion title. “We are happy with going to state again, but not satisfied with just being there. We had a chance to make some noise last year and had two heart breaking losses. As a team, we believe that we can go up to Butte, and not only make it to the championship, but win it!” said Captain Drew Pike, about this year's tournament. Senior, Weston LaVoy, said, “Last year (state tournament) broke us down, but I think we have come back tougher and we want it even more than we did before.” With the team's determination, and the communities belief that we will win, there is an excellent chance of a Class B State Championship title. Come show your support for the boys in Butte, Thursday at 8:00 p.m.,at the Herders first game in the 2016 Class B State Tournament as they battle against Shelby!

If you can't make it to the game you can watch here.
